About Our Ministry
Douglas married his high school sweetheart, Deborah, and they soon started a family. It wasn’t until a life-changing trip to Haiti in his early thirties that God drew him in to full-time ministry. It was on that trip he discovered a deep love of scripture and made a goal to read the Bible through every year. He also came back and told Deborah he was going to become a pastor. Deborah cheered him on by giving him a new Bible to read through every year since then and has been his true helpmate through the ups and downs of leading a church.
After years of serving in a pastoral role in several churches, Douglas retired from leading a church full time, but wanted to stay active in preaching the Gospel. He started writing brief, parable-like devotions that were shared through a radio ministry. At the end of the radio spot, he’d always invite people to join him, “down where the pavement ends.” (Which comes from the fact Douglas and Deborah literally live at the end of a paved road!)
Soon, “Pavement Ends Ministry” took form and began to share messages of hope and encouragement around the world.
Douglas still enjoys preaching when asked and he and Deborah host a weekly bible study in their home. They write and record daily devotions for the local radio station and a weekly devotion column for the local newspaper.
Pavement Ends Ministries now offers a weekly email to subscribers, along with devotions for local churches to use. They also have a podcast with the same name.
Over the years, Douglas and Deborah found out that Pavement Ends Ministries impacts more people around the world than they ever could have at a local church. They love hearing from those who have been impacted by God through Pavement Ends Ministries. More importantly, stop by and say “hello” if you’re ever Down Where The Pavement Ends!
