From Glory to Glory
Steps 5 & 6
Matt.2:10-23
“The kings of Tarshish and of the isles Will bring presents; The kings of Sheba and Seba Will offer gifts.”
Psalms 72:10 NKJV
“The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising. The multitude of camels shall cover your land, The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba shall come; They shall bring gold and incense, And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.”
Isaiah 60:3, 6 NKJV
Last week, we saw this prophecy fulfilled when the Wisemen visited Jesus. What happens next?
Matt. 2: 12 – King Herod had instructed the Wisemen to report back to him about the location of Jesus. But they were instructed in a dream not to go back to Herod. Acts 5:28-29
Matt.2:13 In a dream, Joseph is instructed to take Jesus to Egypt
(Side trip) Talk about dreams.
Step 5 Egypt
Prophesied
- In Matt.2:15 we read that it was Jesus being taken to Egypt was a fulfillment of prophecy.
- “God brings him out of Egypt; He has strength like a wild ox; He shall consume the nations, his enemies; He shall break their bones And pierce them with his arrows.” Numbers 24:8 NKJV
- “When Israel was a child, I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.” Hosea 11:1 NKJV
- In Matt.2:17 we see that the massacre of the babies by Herod was prophesied.
- “Thus says the Lord: “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted for her children, Because they are no more.”
Jeremiah 31:15 NKJV
- How long was Jesus in Egypt? Look at Rev.12:6
- What happened to the gifts that the Wisemen brought?
In the Old Testament, God led His chosen people out of Egypt to escape Satan’s wrath; in the New Testament, He leads His Son into Egypt to escape the same wrath.
( Share my thoughts on why God took Joseph and later the family of Jacob to Egypt.)
Step 6: From Egypt to Nazareth
Matt.2:19-23
- Matt.2:19 Another dream! After Herod dies, Joseph is instructed to return to Israel.
- Because of Herod’s son Archelaus, they are afraid to go to Bethlehem, so they go to Nazareth in Galilee.
- Luke 2:40 at Nazareth, Jesus grows strong, wise, and filled with God’s favor.
Step 7: From Nazareth to Jerusalem
Luke 2:41-52
- Jesus attends His first Passover.
- V. 42 This trip marked Jesus’ transition to Jewish manhood. (Bar Mitzvah)
- V. 41-42 This trip shows that Jesus and His Family faithfully observed Jewish law.
- V. 43-48 When He stayed in the temple to discuss scripture with the teachers, He affirmed His relationship with God the Father. It demonstrated His awareness of His divine identity and mission.
“And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”
Matthew 7:28-29 NKJV
“And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.” Mark 1:22 NKJV
- V. 49 These are the first recorded words of Jesus.
“Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come— To do Your will, O God.’ Hebrews 10:7 NKJV.
Step 8 From Jerusalem to Nazareth
- V. 51 Jesus was obedient to Mary and Joseph; being subject to them highlighted His full humanity.
Jesus grew:
- In wisdom- Mental Maturity
- In stature- Physical Maturity
- In favor with God- Spiritual Maturity
- In favor with man- Social Maturity
“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:5-8 NKJV

Jesus a man , a son of God, that came into this world and never claimed nothing of this world.
But came to save lives..
