This is Christmas

I am a speck of dust called man. My home is on a tiny speck of dirt called earth. This tiny speck of dirt called Earth revolves around a tiny pinprick of light called the sun. The tiny pinprick of light called the sun is floating in a tiny smear of a galaxy called the Milky Way. This tiny smear of a galaxy called the Milky Way is drifting through a tiny bit of space called the universe. This tiny bit of space called the universe was created by the Voice of the One True God of all Power and Majesty.

This One True and Wonderful God looked down through the bit of space called the universe. He saw this smear of a galaxy called the Milky Way. In this smear of a galaxy called the Milky Way, He found the pinprick of light called the sun. Revolving around the pinprick of light called the sun He sees the speck of dirt called the earth. On this speck of dirt called the earth, He found a speck of dust called man. He said to this man, the speck of dust named Douglas ; I love you so very much. Because I love you I sent my Son for you.

This Son of God is the Christ Child whose birth we celebrate. Whoever will believe in Him will not perish but will live forever in heaven with the great Creator of all things.

This is Christmas.

”For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.“

John 3:16-17 NKJV

Pavement Ends Ministry

After years of serving in a pastoral role in several churches, I retired from leading a church full time, but wanted to stay active in preaching the Gospel. I started writing brief, parable-like devotions that were shared through a radio ministry. At the end of the radio spot, I always invite people to come and see me “down where the pavement ends.” (Which comes from the fact that I literally live at the end of a paved road!)

That was profound…and so very true. Who is man that God is mindful of him? And who am I, of all the people of this world, past, present and future, that God is mindful of me? No merit of my own. Just that He loved me and died for me and I believe it with all my heart, my mind and my strength.
