Climb Your High Hill and Thrive: Wisdom for Successful Living

You Were Made to Thrive

To those of you who are graduating, I want to say congratulations. I hope you know the God of all creation made you to thrive and accomplish great things. I challenge you to find the high hill God has for you and climb it. Here are some things you must know if you are going to stand out from the world.

  1. No one owes you anything. Not a free education, not free health care, not a free phone, not a free car, nothing. The people who stand around waiting for free stuff never amount to anything. Those who work hard and earn their own way will be the successful people who thrive in the future.
  • Learn the difference between wants and needs. The Bible advises us to seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness first. Then, all things that we need will be added to us.
  • Never demand anything that you have not earned. If you have not earned it, you do not deserve it. If you want something, work for it.
  • Be careful who you trust, not everyone is trustworthy. Let God be your guide, lean not on your own understanding but always look to God for wisdom.
  • Have respect for everyone, until they prove they do not deserve it. When someone loses your respect, it is their loss, not yours.  However, you should always strive to be worthy of everyone’s respect.
  • Treat everyone with dignity. Everyone!
  • Sex is for marriage, period! If anyone says differently, they are lying. Marriage is for male and females, period! If anyone says differently, they are lying.
  • In order to thrive, you must always obey and serve God “You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.” (Deuteronomy 13:4)

Stand on the Word of God. Choose to stand out from the world and refuse to blend in.

I firmly believe that if you follow these words of advice, you will climb the highest hill. You will thrive.

Down Where the Pavement Ends

From the Bible

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”

Psalms 27:13-14 NKJV

Pavement Ends Ministry

After years of serving in a pastoral role in several churches, I retired from leading a church full time, but wanted to stay active in preaching the Gospel. I started writing brief, parable-like devotions that were shared through a radio ministry. At the end of the radio spot, I always invite people to come and see me “down where the pavement ends.” (Which comes from the fact that I literally live at the end of a paved road!)
