The Comeback
Earlier this year, as I was walking, I was surprised by a covey of quail bursting into flight in front of me. I’ve not had this experience in many years. For some reason, the quail had almost disappeared from this area. This morning, I realized that once again I am becoming accustomed to hearing their familiar but almost forgotten call. Praise God, the Bob White Quail is making the comeback.
Someone asked me this question,” What do you miss most from the past?” There are a lot of things I miss. I miss quality workmanship. I hate to buy appliances that will only last a few years. I miss clean entertainment; I remember the time when real actors could act and real singers could sing. None of them had to take off their clothes or use foul language. There are a lot of things I miss and wish would make a comeback.
The Comeback of Good Morals
But the thing I miss the most is good morals. I remember going into public places and not having to hear the “f” word and other vulgar language. There was a time when people were intelligent enough to have a good vocabulary.
I miss the time when we did not celebrate unwed pregnancies and shacking up was considered shameful. In those days the Ten Commandments were respected and God was honored. The Bible says that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. I wish wisdom would make a comeback.
I am glad that the distinctive sound of the Quail is making a comeback. But I long for the return of morality. But before this happens, churches will have to reject workers who will not reject their sins. Christians will have to stop tolerating immorality. Preachers will have to stop being afraid to proclaim the undiluted Word of God. The truth is the Church must return to being the Church. Then and only then will the world experience the comeback of Morality.
“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”
