Desiring the Master’s Touch
My favorite place for a morning quiet time is the back porch. Here I can watch the sunrise. I feel the morning breeze. I listen to the birds as they start their business for the day. Knowing that days have started like this for thousands of years always helps me. It draws me close to the God of Hope and Glory.
Begging for a Touch
As I sit and commune with God, my dog pesters me for attention. She stands on my left nudging my hand begging me to pet her. When I ignore her she goes to the other side and nudges my right hand. If I keep ignoring her, she moves in front of me. Then she plops her big head down on top of my Bible. I push her back and continue to read. She lies down at my feet. She waits until I decide to pay attention to her.
Why does she so persistently seek my attention? Is it because I feed her and take care of her? No! She would be loyal to me even if I did not feed her. She is persistent because she longs for my touch. Because I am her master, her greatest joy is in the touch of my hand.
Comfort in a Touch
Like this dog, I long for my Master’s touch. While I sit on the porch and watch the sunrise I look expectantly to God. With the morning breeze, He fulfills His promise. He opens His hand and satisfies my great desire with an amazing caress. The birds pay no attention to worldly affairs. They have done this for thousands of years. They just go about their daily business of singing to the Glory of God. So, through it all, I remember this; God is righteous in all His ways and Gracious in all His works. And He has promised to be near to all who call upon Him.
“I will extol You, my God, O King; And I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable. I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, And on Your wondrous works. The Lord is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.
All Your works shall praise You, O Lord, And Your saints shall bless You. They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, And talk of Your power, The eyes of all look expectantly to You, And You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works. The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. The Lord preserves all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy. My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, And all flesh shall bless His holy name Forever and ever.”
