Living in Anticipation: Christ’s Soon Return Rev.22:12

Soon and Very Soon

People who know Jesus Christ as Lord believe that He will come again soon.  And He will. We find assurance of this in 2 Peter. Inspired by God, Peter writes to help us remember and understand that the Father will keep His promise. Just as a flood once destroyed the world, it will most certainly one day be destroyed by fire.  Before this happens, though, Jesus will return to receive His bride, the church. The church is made up of true believers in Christ.

Unfortunately, many people don’t believe this. Some think that it is just not possible, but they don’t understand the power of God. Others say that it has been over two thousand years since Christ was on earth. They conclude that Jesus must not be coming back. These people don’t understand that God created time. He is not constrained or controlled by the calendar. The promise that Jesus will return has been made and this promise will be kept.

We in the Church like to say, “Even so Lord come quickly.” And we should look forward to His return. I know I do. But maybe we should stop going into our church buildings. We shut the doors behind us and sing, “The King is coming.” Instead, we should be out preparing the way of the Lord because the Kingdom of God is near.

Jesus is patient. That is why He has not returned yet. God does not want anyone to perish. He wants everyone to repent and be saved. Since we know this, what sort of person should we be?  The Bible teaches that we should walk in holiness as we go out and tell people The King is coming.

Soon and Soon

The day of the Lord is coming soon, but we don’t know when. So, we should live every day at peace with God, confessing our sins and living righteously for Him. Understand this. Each day that goes by without His return gives us another chance. We can share the Hope of salvation with our neighbor.

The promise was made and the promise will be kept. Jesus Christ will return in all His glory. So let us rejoice. Because soon and very soon we are going to see the King.

“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

Down Where the Pavement Ends

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,”

Ephesians 5:15-20 NKJV

Pavement Ends Ministry

After years of serving in a pastoral role in several churches, I retired from leading a church full time, but wanted to stay active in preaching the Gospel. I started writing brief, parable-like devotions that were shared through a radio ministry. At the end of the radio spot, I always invite people to come and see me “down where the pavement ends.” (Which comes from the fact that I literally live at the end of a paved road!)
