Justified by The Resurrection

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16

Often, this verse is on my mind as I awake in the morning. I guess it is God’s way of reminding me of how precious I am to Him.  Sometimes I take the liberty of personalizing this scripture. I say, “For God so loved me that He gave His only begotten Son, and because I believe in Him, I will never perish but have everlasting life.”

Justified by Love

I can personalize it because I believe Jesus would have died for me even if there were no one else. You see, Jesus was not crucified for multitudes. He died for individuals. All of us can say, “For God so loved me that He gave His only begotten Son.”

Justified by Trust

Often, people will say they do not believe that a loving God will send anyone to hell.    They are right. God does not want anyone to perish. He wants everyone to come to Him and be saved. That is why He allowed His Son to be crucified.  Jesus did not come into this world to condemn anyone.  He came so that everyone would have the possibility of salvation.  Jesus is the only way to get to Heaven. He wants you to choose to follow Him. If you decide not to trust Him, you have chosen not to go to Heaven.

Justified by the Blood

Good Friday reminded us that at precisely the right time in history, Jesus died for the ungodly. Resurrection Sunday reminded us that the wages of sin will never be collected by those who trust in Christ. And now God has shown us how much He loves us. While we were hopelessly lost in our sins, Jesus died for us. The blood that Jesus shed on the cross has justified us. That means when God sees us, it is as if we had never sinned.  Have you chosen to be justified by Jesus?

Down Where the Pavement Ends

From the Bible

“Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Pavement Ends Ministry

After years of serving in a pastoral role in several churches, I retired from leading a church full time, but wanted to stay active in preaching the Gospel. I started writing brief, parable-like devotions that were shared through a radio ministry. At the end of the radio spot, I always invite people to come and see me “down where the pavement ends.” (Which comes from the fact that I literally live at the end of a paved road!)
